First Thursday Club webinar – business and biodiversity
RSK Biocensus created the First Thursday Club to facilitate scientific and specialist-led webinars that focus on best practices relating to the natural environment and how these could affect RSK and other businesses. Nature Positive participates in these webinars, which are free to access.
Our planet’s health and well-being
Biodiversity is a gargantuan term. To say it is essential for the continued survival of humanity is not hyperbole. Biodiversity provides us with the raw materials we need to survive and thrive, including the raw materials we use for producing goods and services. Moreover, vital industries are dependent on biodiversity, including farming and fishing. Fundamentally, biodiversity supports ecosystems that supply oxygen, clean air and water, pollinate plants, control pest populations, treat wastewater, etc. Any negative impact on biodiversity can compromise humanity’s well-being.
Understanding your role
Depending on your business, its reliance on nature may be very apparent or hidden within the value chain. Many resources are assumed to be free; however, owing to growing pressure on these resources, this availability is not guaranteed, nor should resources be accessed without an understanding of the impacts.
In this 45-minute webinar, Stephanie Wray, founder of Nature Positive, talked about how to identify the resources that nature provides and businesses rely on. She also offers insights into how to minimise business risk and reduce its biodiversity footprint.
