What is sustainability training and behaviour change?

It is assumed that humans are rational, evidence-led and proactive, but this is far from the truth of what drives and guides people in their everyday actions. Humans are wired to respond to the local and immediate, not the large-scale and long-term. Most human behaviour is driven by habits, social pressures and the available infrastructure.

We unpick strategy, determining who needs to do what and what training and support they need to make it happen.

We deliver high-quality, interactive, bespoke training activities. Training could cover a basic understanding of biodiversity, how the natural world works, and how it impacts and benefits our human societies and businesses; or a review of the legislative landscape relating to climate risk and your business; or a primer in understanding human behaviour so that you can enable your staff and stakeholders to do what needs to be done and feel great that they’ve done it.

Our training is unique to your needs. We’ll start by working with you to define learning outcomes: what you want people to know, but also what skills you want them to have and what you want them to do, and feel confident doing, after the training. We will create learning resources and use training methods appropriate for your needs, for example, an in-person workshop for senior staff, a series of online training events or a bespoke e-learning course for your existing staff and new starters that can be integrated into your existing training programme and structure. Every business is different, so we will work with you to define and deliver something that makes a real difference for your business, people and the environment.

Empowering stakeholders to act on sustainability

Well-informed and trained people are the key to a sustainable future, as it is the actions and decisions of people that determine the success of our strategies and goals.

This is not a one-off operation but a transformation so that sustainability becomes just a description of how things are. Everyday actions being sustainable by default is where we need to get to if we are to succeed as sustainable businesses and address the climate and nature crises. It is why we called the RSK Group’s sustainability strategy Second Nature – the right actions need to become just part of normal operations.

So, in addition to helping you understand your impacts and dependencies on people and the natural world and develop ambitious sustainability strategies to address these, we can also guide you in turning your strategies into meaningful action, with your staff, your customers, and all the other people and organisations with whom you interact.

This may involve anything from training people on the basics of biodiversity and climate and how they relate to people’s day jobs, all the way through to masterclasses on how to bring about meaningful change through the collective actions of your people.

We are passionate about helping you make good things happen.
